My clay collection has become enormous. I have some really nice clay and don't want to lose it to bad storage. Right now, clay bars are in individual Ziploc type bags with some QD sprayed in. My question is, how do you store your clay and is there a better way than how I am doing it?
I keep mine in small plastic tupper wear to keep it from drying out, and if not then just in a sealed environment.
Staples has some nice little plastic boxs that are perfect size for clay and you can stack about 2-3 bars. They have many many sizes from small to very large, if you want to check it out.
srsly? I can store them in my fish tank? I don't want to ruin 12 bars of Bilt Hambler Soft, 59 bars of Riccardo Yellow or 9 of the giant bars of Riccardo Blue..that would suck.

I'll have to check staples out for the containers, but my question is for used ones, is water the only necessary product to store it with? Ive always seen QD used to store.
haha, I have read of BH clay dissolving if kept in water. They changed the formula to help this issue so it depends when you got the clay.
I realize you didn't list any of the Griot's clay but just for comparison of keeping clay in storage, I purchased a jar of their's over 10 years ago. Used a fair amount over the years but still kept some of the original clay in a ziploc bag inside their plastic container. As I've recently gotten back into the detailing "hobby" I purchased one of their kits that came with their clay. I compared the consistency and feel of the two samples and determined there was no difference even with all of the age on the original. I guess the point to my post is that your ziploc approach should be fine for long term storage. Toss the ziploc bags in another plastic air tight container and you should have zero worries. And BTW, very nice collection of clay!
Thanks man, that is what I am going to do. Keep them in the Ziploc bags and snide an air tight Tupperware container.
I keep mine in a small container that snaps closed and they are sprayed with a large amount of QD then the container is left in a box. They are like new for months with/without use.
Scrap what I said before, this is what you need for your clay and whole collection: A hermetically sealed vault.
