So last night I was pumped as hell to bust out the rotary and get my corvette as flawless a my wife's g35... well the morning came and I had a bunch of crap delaying me from starting on the car. so around 2 I finally started taped everything off and did a test panel with sip then 106 and i saw that my technique sucked and caused some holograms...at that point i said eff it, slapped on some glaze and put on some wax.. Anyways now that i have glaze and wax I dont feel like stripping it down so I am putting off polishing the car until later blah I hate when i get this way
My car hates me... It is very jealous of my customers cars that get constant attention. When no one is listening my car tells me that it is tired of being dirty and that I am lucky it doesn't have swirls or it would drive me off a cliff!
some cars make me wanna die i've been working on a vw golf that just is the strangest thing in the world it destroys some of my pads it gums up polish in some areas then there are deep scratches that are impossible to fix with my gear
For our mobile work, we have a Sprinter van, 158" wheel base extra high roof. Try keeping up with that nightmare!!! Andy
I have a solid black Audi A5, daily driven since Nov. 7 2008 I HAVE NEVER ONCE FULLY CORRECTED MY CAR! Why? Because the paint is super soft and a bitch to finish down. I honestly get so tired after correcting other peoples cars that the last thing I WANT to do is spend 15hrs on my own car trying to get it not to hologram. I do weekly wash (super gentle takes forever) and keep it loaded with sealant all the time. My interior never gets passed 1.5 on the dirt scale.
Same here....I start polishing the hood then I just get tired...then I just throw on a glaze, a sealant then a nice wax. haha Then I seal and wax the wheels and dress the tires. :thumb: (Thats the secret...well not really). :catfight:
I usually tape off a small section polish it then as all of you do glaze some wax and walk away. As long as the car looks good decent when I show up for a job I don't really care about my daily just because I feel like I am wasting time and money.
I've been feeling like that a lot.. Sometimes I'd start it, like the degreaser and wash then after that I'll just be like "Ahh.. F*** it." Then just dry it and leave.
I'm like that today. It's raining. I just don't feel like driving to the shop, detailing it and driving it home in the rain. Maybe I'll ONR it under the car port? Hmmm...
Yeah I'm in the same boat, I finally just did a full job on my truck not too long ago but it didn't come without some serious attempts to motivate myself, in the end though I am glad I got it done.
Same here, sometimes I will get through 1/3 of the car and just be like I give up, put some wax on it and call it a day. Then a week would go by and I would get back into the mood and finish up the car. I have found that even though I love detailing sometimes it just does not work out and I end up doing it in stages over the course of a week or two. Normally when I plan a full detail I have it all planned out and then that never works out and ends up taking me 2x longer than planned. But, oh well I it my car and no rush in getting it done.
I've had my S2000 since March of 08, it's only been one-stepped twice. I usually wash it once a month, and it still looks good  I hate doing my car on a regular basis. Ahhh I love metallic silver!
I hear that chefs feel similarly about cooking for themselves. After cooking elaborate restaurant meals for people, day after day, they have no desire to spend a lot of time cooking for themselves and/or their families. It makes perfect sense to me. I applaud you guys for your hard work. I find detailing my car exhausting. I don't know how you all do it every day. The suggestion to break up the detail into stages spaced over a period of weeks sounds sensible. Who wants to devote an entire "day off" to polishing one's own car after one has spent the week polishing every body else's cars? Even God rested on the 7th day. :meditation:
My car is Silver. So I ussually just wash the rims once a week, just to keep up appearences :hmph: And every 2-3 Months I give her a clay and Carnuba Wax. About 2 hrs is all I can stand :thud:
well I took the z out today and in the sun i threw up...it has tons of swirls... bah and i still need to wash my pads and towels maybe tomorrow ill hit the car with some sip on a pc (i think that finishes down ok on my black c5)
i get like that ill be all set ready to go crazy on detailing my truck and then iim like ahhh screw it .ran outa steam .
haha we all love outr cars but our work vehicle can only stay so clean haha, Same with our main cars, All they have to do is look great to the general public. as long as car guys compliment us we're good haha. (Edited by Nica - Please watch the inappropriate jokes, I enjoy a good joke but there is a limit)
Just the other day I woke up early and washed and clayed. Started to get out makita and said F it. Threw on a coat of Fuzion and made it a little shinny.
I haven't clay barred my car since January of 08. Yeah I feel so bad for it One of these days I'll show some love.
