I have been toying with the idea of getting sat. tv and i would like to hear some feedback on everyones experience with it. My biggest fear is that I won't like it and will be stuck in a contract for however long their specials are advertised. Plus, the fact that i have used cable for as long as I lived so the fear of change is a factor too. I hear at times that if it's cloudy you won't get a signal. Is that true? Dish Network or Direct tv? Any bad experiences with Customer Svc? Btw,I currently have Time Warner cable and i feel that i can get more with sat. for less. I currently pay $110. for the digipac 1000 w/HD, NHL Network & Roadrunner internet as extras.
Well I have both with HD channels. The Sat TV gives a great amount of channels and such but I am not to fond of the quality that it delivers them in. My parent's room has Sat. Tv while the rest of the house has cable. I prefer using cable when watching HD stuff or watching local channels. The customer service for Direct Tv is HORRIBLE!! Get Dish Network if anything. However Sat. Tv gives you channels from like all over the world and stuff..... But! Keep in mind, bad weather will disrupt the signals, but the thing is you're paying $110 for cable, I'm paying like $75 for cable. So if you can save money then go for it, man. Also, I "THINK" you need to pay extra to have the dish installed, but the thing is once you have it installed and you go back to cable you'll have two dishes on your house that are useless.
I signed up with Dish Network when satellite tv first hit. it was cool, but it was also very finicky. Set up was a bitch and rain would cause you to lose the signal. I got rid of it and got out of my contract by making complaints and filing service calls every day for a month. Some days I would call 5 or 6 times and file separate service calls or "tech tickets" as they would call them. They got sick of me and eventually offered to terminate the contract and refund me for what I already paid into it. That turned me off to satellite tv. I'm sure it is better now, but that was my experience. If they could bundle it with internet access I would probably go back, but there is no need for 2 companies where one could provide both services like Comcast does with TV and internet.
Hmmm, bad HD quality? Being an audio/videophile, that wouldn't sit well with me. The other issue I had was having the dishes installed on the house and stuck there if I decided I didn't like it.
When I lived in Houston two years ago, I had Dish Network in the whole house, wasn't that bad, but then it rained during the NBA all-star game. :\
I've heard that weather would cause signal issues. I know if it's storming i tend not to use any electronics but if it's just raining I don't want to have a black screen especially during a Football or Hockey game
Dish Network is just lucky it didn't rain during the Super Bowl... I would've ripped their hearts out and ate their children.
I could see it right now, the Steelers or the Penguins are on and pooofffff.......no signal! That would make me go postal!!
It sucks. My inlaws have it and I hate it. The picture quality is sub par, the thing goes out a lot (that just depends on your area I think) and the guide channel is cheesy.
I have DirecTV and don't have any issues. There is no signal loss, when it's cloudy, or when it rains. I like satelite TV because you get more channels for less cost. Would I recommend it - YES, absolutely!
I also have DirecTV and consider it one of the smartest things I have ever done. Picture quality and audio are superb, HD channels are breathtaking, and service has been top shelf. Rain does not interfere with picture quality but storms will kill the signal for a short time. On one service call the fella was 10 minutes late so I got $100 off my next bill. I still use Roadrunner for high speed internet simply because they are the only show in town. If someone else comes in with the same speed and a "deal" I'll leave Time Warner completely without a second thought.
We have Dish and I've been very happy with it. There has only been a couple times when it has gone out. We have had some heavy rain and storms lately and that didn't even affect it.
I have sat tv at my apartment and when storms roll through it will go off and on. It is not too bad but it can get annoying when you are watching a game or something. My parents have TWC HD and they love it and have no issues with it.
TWC HD is nice but limited on HD channels. I just hate the fact that you don't get what you pay for with cable. I'm just trying to get as much feedback since i know nothing about Sat so keep em coming!
