Planning on using Collinite 845 ... suggestions?

Guys,

I'm planning on using 845 on my dad's car this weekend. He only wants protection and durability.

Any tips regarding its application? I'm thinking about using Z8 after applying it, but I don't know if they are compatible.

Gianni, you should be alright with the 845 on its own. Its so durable that topping it with something else might be a little overkill. Your father will get months of protection out of it on its own granted the vehicle is maintained properly.

 

I agree 100%. I have been using 845 on my boat and it still beads like crazy after 6 months...

 

I just got the 4oz sample with my last order from DD and I can't wait to use it.

 

845 will be great on its own, but there is nothing wrong with adding a bit of z8 on top just for the heck of it. Application like anything, thin layers and wait till the next day for z8 so you know the base 845 is cured fully.

 

You'll love it, especially for the winter time.

tips:
-make sure you shake the bottle well, it needs to be liquid not pasty. The tip of the bottle is usually pasty, you might have to push it back down into the bottle.

-when you shake it (it takes me 3-4 mins), make sure you press and hold the cap cuz it could fly-off or come loose.

-apply thin, a little goes a long way

- i keep my applicator a bit moist to reduce wasting the product by it getting absorbed.

From the reviews I have read I hear it has great durability but not the best gloss, shine, etc. How is it compared to other comparable waxes?

 

845 doesn't exactly say that it is carnauba, it is probably synthetic. Although I like the gloss (remember, most of gloss comes from prep work), and love durability. If you like deep carnauba glow, and still want durability, go with 915.

 

Also clay it first. 845 is awesome

 

Yea the 915 definitely has more of the glow but also is a PITA to apply sometimes.

Gianni, I think you would really like Gloss-it Concourso gloss. It applies exactly like Opti-seal, but you rub it into the paint more, kinda like sunscreen, and it is much better in terms of looks than Opti-seal.

^ wow! enough said for me, I'm gettin out and tryin it today, I have a coat of Lusso Oro on my dad's Z and I like how it looks right now, will the 845 diminish that or enhance it? Its a gun metal grey color.

 

I don't know if they will play nice with eachother... 845 isn't a straight up nuba but a nuba/sealant hybrid.

My No. 845 should be arriving tomorrow. I just got done claying the car and it wasn't terrible, but I had to pressure wash it twice before I clayed it to get all the dirt off.

I'm still debating if I should use the 845 or OCW ... :shead:

 

915 is very easy on/off. Prime your applicator with a QD, and then apply VERY THIN. Do one section at a time, wipe it on, and buff it right off. Don't let it dry. If you want to try something REALLY HARD to remove - Klasse SG, wipe it on, let it dry, and it's almost like glue to wipe off...superglue that is...

I just got done with this wash & wax that took forever. It literally took me 3-4 hrs and two clay bars to get this sucker clean. My dad lives in NYC and this car had small rust particles all over the place.

I used OCW first because I thought my Collinite wasn't going to show up today. Thanks to Phil at detailersdomain, the 845 showed up and I applied one thin coat as recommended by you guys.

I didn't see any difference after applying the 845 as a topper. I did notice that the OCW left streaks in some areas. It was a really humid day today, so I guess that was expected based on everyone's experience here.

I will post pics tomorrow.

 

ideally it would have been 845 and then you apply OCW. That would provide the best durability.

I have not tried your combination so hopefully it works well.

You can always try 845 and then OCW the next time you do another round of wash and wax.

 

This was my plan, but I thought my 845 wasn't going to show up today. I couldn't wait to try it out.
