I'm going to be washing my mom's car tomorrow and I've noticed there is a lot of built up contaminants on the lower body panels of the car (Mercedes E500). I was wondering if it would be safe on paint to use zep citrus in a pump sprayer? If so what dilution ratio should I use?

I am heading out to home depot and lowes soon to pick up some other things, so I was wondering if it would be worth my money to buy a gallon of this stuff, primarly for use on decontaminating paint surfaces and using it for the engine and wheel wells?

    All advice is appreciated :)

On the back of the bottle it says don't use on car paint... Not sure if this is meant at full dilution or what, but I didn't buy it because of that.

Hmm, I know someone on here uses it alot to strip LSP, few oz in a foam gun/lance. I do not see any issues using it via spray at a dilution of like 5:1 or even 10:1. I would not leave it to dry at a high dilution but hoping the person who uses it alot will see this.

its a great product, just get it. richy uses it a lot and hes the one that turned me on to it. very cheap, and can be used on almost everything at the right dilutions of course. i used it at 7:1 or 5:1 on the lower panels, wheel wells, and tires when i did the pre-correction wash on my GTI a while ago. its safe for paint when diluted properly. its just like P21S TAW in my opinion. i also add an ounce or two to my foam gun in addition to my normal soap to heavily soiled cars and for stripping LSP. i did 2 oz of it in the foam gun with optimum soap on the highlander i did a couple weeks ago, and when i rinsed it, there was literally no protection or beading at all on it. i also used it on grease and oil stains that were in the carpeting on the trashed audi i did in july, and they came right out after scrubbing them and using the zep citrus. its so cheap and has so many uses youd be crazy not to get it.

I use this product also, and i have to agree that with the correct dilution it is very good. I've used it for variuos reasons all with very satisfactory results. I hope this was helpful.

no problem. let us know how you like it. like i said, i wont even consider buying P21S TAW anymore, when i can get the zep so cheap and it does basically the same thing. only thing is i think TAW smells a little bit better, but oh well.

Dante..sorry I didn't see this earlier but billy basically said what I would have too...it's funny how we all think the same. The Zep products were recommended to me by AL-53 whose opinion I value very highly. He said to use the Zep Citrus 4:1 on wheel wells and tires and even on carpet. Great I thought..a good quality APC for cheap. Now remember, Al lives in the states and I live in Canada. So I go to Home Depot and the bloody bottle says don't use on paint or carpet..but it's the Zep Citrus and I think "Shit, this must be a Canadian version or something"..so I get ahold of Al and he laughs...yes it says that on the bottle but it IS safe, especially at 4:1 to use on paint and carpet, regardless of what it says on the bottle. The other APC that I have bought is the Zep degreaser that's purple. It's a few bucks more but it's stronger. I used some to clean my white eavestrough and garage door and I'll tell you they're brand new. You could try a stronger mixture if you like of the Citrus on tires but I'd stay with 4:1 for paint and undercarriage. Of course as the disclaimer, don't let that or any other APC dry on paint..but that's just common sense. Let us know what you think of it. BTW, their glass cleaner (pro bottle:it's green) can be cut 32:1 and it ROCKS. Their Traffic Lane cleaner is a great carpet cleaner too. The Zep line is very, very underestimated.

Alright, I have to go to Lowe's tomorrow for some hardware anyway - I'll try some.

What exactly is the stuff called? I seem to remember there being at least ten different Zep all purpose cleaner type products, all sold by the gallon.

Karl..does Lowes sell Zep as well? I know Home Depot does (they're usually not too far from each other though). The strongest one is the purple one and it is called Degreaser I think. All the good ones are from the "Professional" line. The Zep Citrus is orange (the only orange one). The glass cleaner is green and is also from the professional line. The Traffic Lane cleaner is in a red bottle. Those are the products I use. I don't use the purple as much but if you need something REALLY strong, that's your stuff. Let us know what you think.

ZEP Citrus Degreaser is sold at Home Depot, not sure if Lowes carries it. It is a round gallon jug, just like Poorboy's SS&S. I sued this stuff as engine degreaser, 1:1, which is strong and works very well. I never used is as degreaser for paint though...

The purple stuff from zep is crazy strong. It was able to clean up wheels (cut 8:1) that had never been cleaned in 10 years with no problem.

Typically if Home Depot carries one brand of a product, Lowes will not and vice versa. I don't think I've seen the same brand at the 2 stores.
