uh oh, well they will just put out a patch, and create some other file format that mucks things up even more.
why is there such thing as a patent? There shouldn't be patents, which means it will force originator to LOWER prices. That's the whole, not, "I hold a patent and will rip you off as much as I want...
What the hell? That's just ridiculous... Good thing I live up in Canada where if a judge says anything people get mad and force him to reconsider.
thats ok by me. i feel like microsoft is way too big for there britches. makes it tough for smaller software companies.
Patent are a good thing in my mind, would you like to spend $5 mil. on R&D work, then put a product out and have someone come in and just copy it and sell it for a lower price. Why would anyone want to create a new prodcut then if they know all they have to do is wait for someone else to create it and then they can just copy it and sell it and not have to spend money on development. Now were I do not like patents is were company's hold them just to hold them so no one else can create it, case in paint how Auto Magic has patent on clay but does not let any other company pay to use the patent to create there own clay. They use the patent to kill off competition and expansion of that market.
I paid for my Rainbow vacuum over $2000 because it is patented (have to have it, I'm allergic to dust), but if others will "copy" it, it will force originator to lower the price...and if you don't want to create a new product - don't, nobody has a gun to your head...I'm just of those high prices...lower it, lower it!!!
I understand what you are saying, but everything is patented to some degree. If others wanted to create a vacuum like the Rainbow, and Rainbow would licance its patent then yes there would be a lower price. Also, the market for it may not be big, thus you will have a higher price. Like I said, patents are a needed part of making sure that new technology is introduced and researched. If you did not know you were protected you would have no incentive to produce anything. Yes no one is holding a gun to your head but if you dont have the protection of knowing that what you invented is yours then what is the incentive? Example would be why would a drug company want to look into medication for the cure for a certain illness if they knew the second the drug was put out anyone could copy it, there would be no incentive for anyone to come up with medication, and everyone would just wait around doing nothing.
Patents are the reward for smart work and capitalism. Copying someone else's work or forcing them to share is like socialism - community property. What is yours is ours. We know we do not like socialism.
