just got a quick one. got some stain, more of a scuff on the headliner from moving a framed picture i had to drop off to a client and so am wondering what have you all used with success to take scuffs off the headliner? thanks Beige/white head liner with black scuff
I call BS. scuff on the headliner came from a high heel : +1 on spraying product on the towel, NOT on the headliner directly. You risk headliner sagging or at the very least, discoloration if you get it too wet.
You can get something similar (prep sol, acrysol etc. )at a parts store. You could probably just mix denatured alcohol 1:1 distilled water.
i am going to have to check parts source then and see what they have. you think it'll stain or no? or have you had that happen to you?
It never stained for me. Just make sure you spray it directly onto a mf (lightly) and not your headliner. If you spray it on the headliner it could have an effect on the adhesive that's used to adhere the material to the backing which would cause it to sag.
Are we talking about cloth headliners, or vinyl? Just making sure. My F250 has a cloth headliner with some stains on it from the previous owner. I was able to make them better with upholstery cleaner on a towel, but haven't been able to make them go totally away. It'd be nice if this solvent approach actually worked for this.
I've only done it on a cloth headliner and it works. I have never had issues at all. When I first tried to tackle a stain on a headliner a long time ago I used an upholstery cleaner and it didn't do much to a stain. As a matter of fact it left a stain of its own. Then, I grabbed some prepsol for some reason and sprayed it on a rag and it took the stain out completely. For 15 yrs now I have done it and its never failed me once.
I usually use a 15:1 APC solution with a damp clean waffle weave towel. Basically I mist the roof lining lightly and then give it a good wipe until the APC foams slightly. Then I rinse the cloth in some clean water and go over the roof lining with the damp cloth a few times until all the soapy residue is removed. I then take a hairdryer and dry the lining from around 10-15cm's away while rubbing with a clean damp microfiber. The roof linings always come out near perfect and I haven't seen the stains return yet :thumb: I actually did this on this past weekends detail, below are 2 quick pics. Bottom half of the roof in this pic has been cleaned but not yet dried. After the whole roof lining was cleaned
Headliner - Duragloss 451 Fabric & Carpet Cleaner Aerosol Foam (FC) is a blend of surfactants, which gently foam away soil, oil and grease from fabric and carpet surfaces. Spot cleaning can be done without leaving rings on fabrics, carpet and velour - As previously eluded to, spray product onto a cloth, rub fabric with very little pressure
For a lot of scuff marks I use a Mr Clean Magic Eraser with your favoritie APC. I always have 3 of these in my kit Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Extra Power
