    Hello all,
I've been torn between these two rotaries that I would like to purchase. I currently have a makita and a UDM. I would like to have a lighter weight rotary to go along with my makita for doing side panels mainly and just to have another polisher:giggle: I've read that the flex could get a little slower if you put some pressure on it. Is this true? I've only read that happening of one user so that could be debated. I do like the shape of the metabo and the traditional rotary shape of the flex.

So I guess the question is to the users of both the makita and one of the two above listed machines, what are the best attributes of having them vs the makita or to compliment the makita or any other rotary for that matter?

Hi cnut, I'm looking at the same rotories as you and I still haven't made up my mind yet. I have the Makita & 7424. I have been looking at them for awhile now. My hang ups are the weight of the Metabo is still pretty close to the Makita and the 1100 rpm being the low setting on the Flex. This week I have seen some really good prices on the metabo. Anyway good luck to you...:thumb:

I have the Makita & the Flex, they both have there place in my arsenal. I have never had any problems with the flex bogging down. I also have no complaints about the 1000 rpm start. I will say I think your comparing apples to apples so get the cheaper of the two.

Thank you for your replies. Buddy, where did you find the good prices on the metabo? I'm leaning towards the flex but just do not know about the louder running noise it has. Anywho thank you for the help. The higher startup spped wouldn't be an issue.

You can't go wrong with this deal. This is a great price. To bad I just bought one a couple a weeks ago otherwise I would have jumped on this.

I would not buy a Metabo since the ergonomics on that rotary is IMO, not good compared to the Flex.

I had the same feelings at first .Until I tried it .I find it to be a very comfortable machine to use. I already had a Makita , Porter Cable 7428 (which I just gave to my brother) and a Flex 603 VV.I also have a Flex 3401 DA. I was also torn between the 2 machines mentioned and was leaning toward the Flex as I was already happy with the build quality of my Flex DA.But I watched Carlo's (Nica) polishing videos and noticed how comfortable he was with the Metabo .So I gave it a try and I have been very happy with my choice.

I'm going to say I would look at the Flex.
I injured my hand about 12 days ago, so I'm limited to holding my tried and true makita.

I had gone back to the metabo but i'm not sure I'm in love with it like I use to be.

I have moved on to the Flex 3403 and I'm in love, its light does the job and does it well.

I will be putting both of these kitted up with the 3m backing plate and tons of pads at killer prices...

Stay tuned I need about 24 hours to get them up.

But if it was my choice and only choice I would do the flex over the metabo. I have both at the shop.

I busted my Metabo out after a 3-4 month hiatus from using my Makita so much. I don't know WHY i left it collecting dust. Now that I've got some serious rotary control down, the Metabo is an absolute DREAM to work with and control.

I'd go with the Flex. The Metabo is an excellent machine but the Flex owns it in terms of ergonomics, which IMO, is important when you spending a good few hours polishing a car :thumb:

For $229 for just the machine, the Flex looks like the one to get.

I may be getting a good deal on the metabo so that will be the route i'll probably go. Thank you all for the input.

I have both machines and love both of them. The Flex has a trigger, the Metabo doesn't. The Metabo is quieter than the Flex. Tough call to make, but I'd choose the trigger over noise level.

Another factor to consider is that the Metabo has a lower start up speed of 700 while the Flex starts at 1100.
