I bought this over 4th of July weekend. I sold my Audi allroad on July 3rd to a private party (instead of getting screwed by trade-in), and GM was having a 4th of July 0% for 72 months financing special, so I had to act quick. I was looking for a Pontiac G8 GT pretty much fully loaded, and these things are starting to disappear quick. The GXP version just didn't make sense at this point for me. BTW, the GT is plenty of quick the way it is!!! So, Friday night I was at a local dealer and they were trying to sell me one off their lot. I told the sales mgr. that I understand and appreciate that he's trying to sell one from his existing inventory, but how bout we get on the horn and try to find one with the options I want. I ended up using one of their PCs and found a Stryker Blue Metallic one in Memphis, TN. That was the closest to St. Louis I could find one with the options I wanted. The dealer down there (Sunrise Motors) was willing to do a dealer trade. So, I volunteered to drive my local dealer's G8 GT (silver w/ less options) down there and pick mine up. No way in hell some slapd!ck was going to drive my car back 4 hours. I left Saturday morning (July 4th) for Memphis at 6:45 a.m. and pulled back in my driveway at 3:08 p.m. Valentine 1 is your best friend. Spent all of Sunday cleaning her up. Did a thorough wash, clay, and Menz FMJ wax. Hit the windows, tires, and a few other things before running out of steam. There's a couple of issues I'm taking up with the dealer, such the 2" scratch on the back bumper and the slight door ding on the passenger side. Overall, I absolutely love this car. First time in about 6 years that I'm truly happy with my car. Anyway here are some pics:
Congratulations on the new Pontiac! The more I see of those, the more I like them. It is truly a good looking car. Vibrant colour too. Did you not have the option of doing a trade-through on your Audi? I always do that (pre-sell it and run it through as a trade on paper but then it goes to the guy I sold it to). It saves you money on taxes; well it does here in Ontario where the tax man crawls so far up your ass he can see what you had for breakfast on Sunday. Win-win situation. Good for you.
I saw one of those on I-77 this afternoon. I like them, they have presence. I hope they live on somehow under another name-plate or something. Although it looks very nice in Pontiac guise.
Very nice ride! The G8's are my favorite out of the Pontiac lineup. They have nice Euro lines and they sound great too.
Nice car. I've always been partial to blue on a car and this is no exception. I really love that shade of blue, almost looks electric.
Nice! Congrats on the new ride Jonny :thumb: That thing is a far cry from your Allroad; I'm glad you're happy with it. If you're free this weekend I'll ride down on my new motorcycle so we can check each other's machines out. If you didn't pick up a PTG, I'll bring that along so you've got a base reading at least.
In Missouri, you can sell your car to a private party and then take that against the new car price for taxes as long as you have a bill of sale signed by both parties and notarized. I appreciate everyone's kind comments. Did the leather last night. I'm getting it up to standard slowly but surely. I think I'm going to angle some window tint as a b-day present for me from my wife. Nothing too dark, just enough to take the edge off. The car is an absolute blast to drive. There's a lot of bang for your buck with the G8. Thanks again everyone!
Hey, that sounds like a great idea. I think I'm taking the kids to Missouri Botanical Gardens Sat. morning, but should be open that afternoon and all day Sunday. Just let me know. Also, are you up to 3 now with the bike, or did you sell the Mustang?
Heh, no good reason for one person to have 2 cars and a bike (but a car and 2 bikes is ok). Got rid of the Mustang in April and bought the bike a little over a month later. Not sure which of the two days I'll head down, but I plan to be on the bike as much as possible this weekend; I'll give you a call.
