I used Wet Mirror Finish for the first time today and was well impressed with the outcome but only when using it, by hand, over a Carlack 68 and Jetseal base, and then topping it with a layer of AG HD wax. I am aware that WMF is more often used either on cleaned paint or directly after an AIO. I tried both of these (topped with either Jetseal or HD wax), and whilst the results looked okay, I wasn't overawed with them. However, when applying the WMF to the Jetseal it just appeared to 'melt' into the bodywork and left a crystal clear layer ready for the wax. The experience of applying WMF to either cleaned paint or Carlack 68 felt nothing like this. Any thoughts as to whether I could expect to experience any problems applying WMF after Jetseal; I wouldn't have thought that durability would be a particular problem given that its been topped with a wax. I've posted some pics below.
That's what I thought initially, tried it, and wasn't that impressed with the results. Hence changing the order round and finding that this combination seemed to work better.
No. Paint cleaned chemically with Megs DC1 initially. Cralack 68 AIO then applied followed by Jetseal. Then WMF. Then wax.
Carlack 68 is the European name for Klasse AIO. Sorry for not making this clearer. The WMF is a sealant-based syhthetic glaze so can be topped with either wax or sealant.
Apologies for any confusion. The question is whether anyone is aware of any problems that are likely to occur (i.e. bonding issues etc) by using WMF in this way?
Yes, most likely the wax(es) will sweat in heat and rain because I find it hard to believe a sealant(AIO) topped with a sealant, topped with a glaze (WMF IS still a glaze), topped with a wax is properly bonding to anything.
So which part of the process is not bonding to which other element? I understand that a normal glaze (i.e. non-sealant based) wouldn't be used either over or under a sealant, but as WMF is sealant-based (and can be used under a sealant as CG state), I can't work out why it might not bond with Jetseal.
