Hi everyone, I'm not a professional detailer like most on this forum but am a very enthusiastic amateur . I bought my 2009 Infiniti G37S about 2 weeks ago and was away so I just got a chance to detail it this weekend. Colour is Liquid Metal Grey... I believe it is called Amethyst Graphite in the US. I was concerned about the self healing clear coat that was introduced on the G37 for the 2009 model year. There were some light swirling on the car (from the dealer likely) that I wanted to take care of so I decided to polish it even though some on the Infiniti forum cautioned against it (on the basis that the self healing paint reacts to heat and the polishing would damage the clear coat). The good news is everything worked out well! Here is my process... 1. Washed car (normal stuff... 2 buckets, sheepskin mitts, etc., etc.) 2. Clayed car 3. Re-washed 4. Polished with Menzerna PO203 and a LCC white pad with my PC 5. 50/50 Isopropyl alcohol wipedown (twice actually because the Menzerna seemed to have a lot of oil that was difficult to fully remove. 6. Applied Jeffs Werkstat Prime Strong via black LCC pad and my PC 7. 2 Coats of Acrylic Jett Trigger 8. 1 coat of P21S wax 9. Poorboys wheel sealant on the rims 10. Zaino tire dressing on the tires In my excitement to get started, I forgot to take before pictures. I appreciate very much everything I have learned over the past while reading and studying what you guys do here. I can't say I will ever be as knowledgeable or skilled as many of you but I am now competent enough to keep my own cars looking amazing. Thanks!
Good for you for having the balls to try it anyway after the negative nay-sayers said it wouldn't work!! There hasn't been a lot written about the self-curing paint here but the consensus so far is that a pc works better than a rotary for this paint. Your success stems from using the right tool...maybe you had already researched that, eh? Anyway, good job and good for you!:mounty:
Thanks everyone for the comments. I really appreciate it coming from a group of experts like yourselves. I was nervous pulling out the PC to polish the paint but there were some imperfections that would have bugged me. I polished a small area of the trunk lid first to "test" it out and everything worked as I would have expected.
