Self Center Hex Pads, from Chemical Guys

Anyone ever tried these? I think these are new from the CG line up, might pick some up and see. My question is, does this engineering relate to the Kompressor Pads?

looks pretty cool, but i won't buy them.

 

I can only imagine how much polish would be wasted with these pads...

I had some of these. Adam's sells them with their logo on the back (imagine that..lol)

You use more product filling the pad up than you do on the car, a real waste of product.

 

Seems to me that the self-centering thing would only work if you're using exactly the right backing plate. 3M UK backing plate? Probably not so much.

I've also seen these sold as "Buff-n-Shine" brand pads. Majestic Solutions has some on the shelf. I'll stick with my 3M UK pads.

When you see products like this, it means pads are a commodity and everyone is looking for a way to standout to eek out some profit by being different.

 

Different isn't always better..lol

 

It's the same concept as the CCS pads - or even the waffle ones that no one seems to like anymore, me? I like a flat pad.

Agree with all said there - these are a gimmick. A functional gimmick probably, but a gimmick all the same.

 

The kompressor pads claim they have added advantages over all the other pads...im assuming the "flats"

* Recessed back centers backing plate and prevents marring the finish
* Perfect for newer, scratch-resistant clear coats

"Like floating on a cloud"
* Pads are easy to clean


would all of those be gimmicks?

 

Paul gave me a hex fenessing pad for free to try out .. havent had a chance to try it yet .. i still have a set of kompressor pads collecting dust too

 

you should do a product review, you never know, these inventions might be better

i would rather cut down worktime over trying to save a lot of product.

 

Yes, because they are all easy "advantages" to claim without proper proof - and anecdotal evidence doesn't constitute proof.

Taken point by point:
Slotted face - ordinary pads will conform to surface contours, the amount depending on the pad's durometer rating.
Extended pad life - as a function of the foam used, but not the pattern cut into it.
Wetter longer - nope, can't see that given the greater surface area exposed to the air.
The other two are nothing to do with the pads hexagonal pattern, so are pointless as all pads with the same recessed back could claim the same advantage. And how often do you hear of regular pads inflicting marring? That's operator error displaying carelessness.

Larger sweet-spot - wouldn't even know how you can define a pad as having a sweet spot, so most likely this is typical marketing FUD.
Less splatter - I'll bet with Farecla G3 you'll still splatter with this pad!
More useable surface area - nope, not a chance - lucky to have the same, never mind more, than a regular plain or waffle pad.
Easier to clean - nope, just as easy or difficult as regular ones.
Smoothest running pad - might have to concede that one, but only if comparing with other pads of the same durometer rating, otherwise it's a moot point.

My honest impression is that if there's no premium on the price being asked for the funky hex design, then it's worth getting a couple to try out of curiosity.

 

What's the old saying about fool me once? I bought into the hype of the CCS pads - and after trying them, I'd rather use the flat ones. Now - I use a PC and a Flex, just so ya'll know.

 

It might be just me, but I really, really like the waffle pattern 3M UK pads from Polished Bliss. They're my favorites.
