dont have much experience cut polishing black paint, so i got my friend 2 let me practice on his truck. having a hard time keeping swirl marks out, just when i get them out and i think i'm good a couple steps back reveals new ones....frustrating. please help
theres no set speeds on the rotary, but i try 2 feather the variable trigger at about 1/3 to 1/4 power. as far as steps, just priming my pads with polish, applying small amounts of polish 2 body, spread it over the area then polish it down till i start getting a bit of shine back
What pads and polishes are you using, what is the condition of the paint. I enjoy polishing black vehicles.
:nod: Black colour vehicles are extremely rewarding when detailed properly. There is lots to polish a vehicle, first of all what make is the vehicle? That will determine the clear coat your up against and should also help you choose a polishing combo. Example, Toyota has soft clear coat so if you use an aggressive combo your going to leave and induce more swirls/holograms. Hope this helps.
is there a referance guide 4 the hardness of the clear coats of different manufacturers? and i understand that rpm's r a factor as well, whats a good rotary that has speed settings so i dont have 2 keep trying 2 feather the variable trigger on my air polisher
this is what I have found Jap paints - soft to very soft Australian - medium European non ceramiclear - soft to soft/medium European ceramiclear - hard to very hard American paint - soft, medium and rock hard Dodge nitro - medium, Ford GT softer, Corvette rock hard
