I'm extremely impressed. I didn't realize you could remove such bad scratch's. Bonus on the engine shampoo. I'm going to try that method on my car. I'm also interested in trying the auto balm. All in all very good and very informative thread. Thanks a lot!
Thanks, and thank JL (JLs Detailing). That engine bay method is his. It works every time, and it's so easy, it feels like cheating! Thank you, sir. Thanks! Thank you! Phil, one of the owners of Majestic Solutions, was at a meet that I was at today. He asked me if I'd wet sanded the entire truck. Made my day. Thank you, and if you're thinking about getting one...do it. This is the second 7.3L diesel Ford I've owned - the first was a 2001 Excursion. They're fantastic vehicles. Comfortable, reliable, good looking in a truck sort of way, and they'll tow a house! Thanks, and you're welcome! There are spots that I couldn't, or wouldn't, fully correct, especially on that bed. There are a couple of very close up "after" photos of the bed where you can see that some of the scratches remain. Certainly they're less visible than they were before, but some of them aren't totally gone. It was a judgement call - I felt that going any harder would have put me at risk of doing more harm than good.
Karl...OMG..I just love how the truck turned out. The mirrors, the mats and of course the paint! Did you just use AB on the driver's side of the box? When I got some $$ from a few details, I'm gonna be ordering some AB and probably some BH clay. You should be very proud indeed!:applause2:
Thanks Richy! After the polishing, I used Auto Balm on the whole body plus the mirrors. I'm sort of on an AB kick right now. I did think hard about using AJT on it, mostly because it would be so easy, but I thought AB would offer more protection. With the paint this thin on the bed, I'm hoping to not have to polish it again for a long time. Hopefully never. When you get some AB, on a freshly polished black panel, apply it in a small area, and compare that area to its surrounding areas. It's got this way of making black look "more black." It's somehow darker, almost like it's a different color. Pretty wild.
There is no question in my mind about getting a 7.3 with a 6 speed, but my pocketbook can't handle it...
