So the more obsessed I get with keeping my car perfectly detailed the more I notice every little imperfection, and even worse the more I worry about my cars all the time... The two worst things are the parking lot and the shop... The parking lot well not much you can do because most people are idiots and could care less about their autos, but shops they really get to me. You pay for other people to do anything to your car and it seems like they could care less... How do you find people you can actually trust?? I'm stressing because my car needs tires and I just can't find a shop I trust...
Wow, Thats so funny you should say that. I Just went through the same thing with my Jeep Wrangler. What I did was went looking for a mom & pop shop. Which I found. I couldn't believe the excellence and pride that they took. After a lenthy talk about what was right for me. They had the tires in stock. They said it was my lucky day. They pulled my Jeep into the shop and before they closed the door they invited me in to watch. I couldn't believe the care that they took and the way that they explained the procedure. The only marks that I had was from the old stick on tire weights. The help they gave was very important because I wanted to go with a bigger tire to fill up the wheel well a little more. I started with a P225-75R 15 and end up with P235 75R 15. I hope you can find a place like this too...:thumb:
What kind of car is it? Most car models have forums much like this for that specific car. Post in the regional section asking for someone who can recommend a good shop. Usually people on car forums are enthusiasts, again, much like detailing enthusiasts too. And they'll be able to recommend a shop that has a good rep.
It's a 98 Lincoln Mark VIII. I have 7000 posts on the Lincoln Forum I frequent I'm mostly concerned because I bought a set of OEM replacement wheels for a really good once in a lifetime deal... they retailed for $2000... I paid much less but I doubt the same deal will ever come across again. The car isn't in perfect shape but I am in a constant process to improve the car and I dread when something gets damaged and my car goes backwards...
First of all, that is one cool Lincoln, I love the looks of the Mark VIII (I drive an LS V8). Second, ask some family members/car nut friends about who they go to with their car. Visit a few places to get a feel for the quality of work they do, and make your choice from there. I am lucky that my mechanic is very good and is always very careful with all of my family's rides.
I see I am not the only person that thinks this way. Worst case, I take the wheels off myself and take them to the tire shop, just so no one else touches my car. If you have access to another car, and know what you want, this is how it's done. I had an incident back a few years ago with my MB. I ordered a set of Goodyear Eagle GSD3's or whatever they were and had them mount and balance them and install them on the car. The tools that mounted the new tires had used an incorrect machine, and the clamps dug into the inner and outer faces (lips) of the wheels. Needless to say I am terrified, unless I go to a place that I trust.
The wheels in question are chrome... all the more reason to worry.... Looking at that pic makes me cringe... look at all the dirt on those brand new wheels, looks like a bit of oxidation from just sitting!
yea, i got my ssr's mounted and they had put lil bite marks on the rims from mounting =(, had to find good work nowadays
