DISCLAIMER: this thread is going to be long and have a LOT of pics.

Ok guys. so i have had this job scheduled for a two day correction and full detail for about a month now. the owner is just getting into doing some of his own detailing and has a PC and some other odds and ends. he contacted me because he said his car was moderately swirled and he couldnt seem to get the paint corrected. so we booked for this weekend, and about a week ago he messages me and tells me that he had taken his car in for service and forgot to tell his service consultant NOT to wash the car. well, they washed it. he called me frantic and began freaking out telling me how the dealership absolutely HAMMERED his paint and that his car needed me "more now than ever". i assured him it couldnt be THAT bad and that i would take care of it for him. since roger (slanguage) and i have been talking about getting together to work on a job for a while now, i invited him to come out for a day and we could work together for the correction. after the wash and upon inspection of the paint, i thought, eh, its pretty bad, but i've seen worse. no problem. roger and i decided to do a test panel with power finish and a green uber. the clear coat laughed hysterically at our feeble attempt. we then tried an orange pad and 1Z intensive paste with no results. so we decided to step it up to SIP on an orange uber. once again, we BARELY even put a dent in it. starting to get a little worried, we decided to step it up for power gloss and a yellow LC CCS. guess what. barely any correction, even after two passes. at this point, roger and i are looking at eachother, baffled. now we're really getting worried and angry. now, its WAR. we deliberated what to do while chain smoking and then left for lunch to ponder some more. we decided to go with an aggressive three step process: power gloss on yellow ccs, SIP on orange uber, and then PO85RD on a blue uber. we did a test spot with this combo and the results came out much better than we were seeing thus far, but i dont think either of us were still totally pleased. running out of time, we had to run with it. after two long days, here's how she turned out:

+1. Looks good guys. I recently did a new Audi as well and was astonished at how hard the clear was.

 

Looks good! After working on... 3 audis so far I can tell you if you want decent correction in a decent amount of time you HAVE to go wool. I used megs burgundy+m105 of the s5 i did a few weeks back...

doot: yeah we were talking about that allllll day yesterday. how we would have killed for a bottle of m105 and a couple megs wool pads. at least i now know what my next purchases are going to be haha.

 

I have to agree with doot. When it gets to that stage, out comes the pfw or the white wool and that combined with PG or 105 will do the trick REGARDLESS of what you've got. You certainly seem to have got it looking great however...you might have just saved yourselves a bunch of time.

 

oh trust me i know. i only have one PFW pad and a couple spot PFW pads and that certainly wouldnt have been enough for alll the real estate on that car, so we made due with what we had. i was simply not as prepared as i should have been i guess.

 

yeah. I think I'm going to order some 105 and some wool pads today.

 

Bill I thought you had died on Sat, what vac did you wind up using?

 

i might as well have. 12 hours work time in the heat, hour and a half drive each way. there was no way i was going to even consider driving to north philly for the vac. the customer had a nice 6.5 HP shop vac in his garage so i just asked him if i could use that.

 

No problemo. I still have it here and I'll have it here for a few weeks if you wanna come down and grab it up.

 

So Bill told me this is forum is where the true detailers hang out so I had to join - maybe I can learn a thing or two....

Yes, that carnage is from my car. I really do have to "thank" the local Audi shop for using what seems like a Brillo pad on my car a few weeks ago.

A huge THANKS to Bill for spending so much time on getting my car back to a respectable condition. :applause: I'm embarassed that it was in the shape it was in.

 

Welcome. The first thing I'd do is check out some of the threads about maintenence washing to keep that car looking great after he detailed it.
