I just detailed a brand new 350z. The paint had the basic swirl and car lot bad wash job scratches on it. As I'M buffing the car I'M noticing my pads turning the color of the car.....a nice red. No car I have ever done has turned my pads the color of the car.

So my question. Why is this happening? Does Nissan add color to their clear coat?

The car turned out nice but I have no idea why my pads had a new color on them.

    Thanks guys.

PS. It was not from buffing to aggressively. It was when I did my first pass with PO106FA with an orange pad

Sounds like the clear is tinted.

Some clears are tinted by the manufactor, it all depends on the color. If by normal you mean getting color on your pad then yes this is normal.

Single stage Paint is the most likely thing....its basically Urethane clear with pigment added rather than a colored basecoat with a clear over it...you will only find this on Solid color cars as metallics need a clearcoat.....

I don't believe anyone uses single stage paint on new cars anymore. Even my GMC Savana cargo van is base clear.

I wondered about that when phil had paint on the slant nose he showed pictures of, there was red on his pad

Thank you very much guys......it is Nogaro red which is a three stage paint. It has tinted clear coat. That is what I was getting on my pads.
