My friend came to me and asked if I could do something about some marks he has on his paint. Im assuming its oxidation. It white looking that can't be removed from the paint by washing or even using your finger or fingernail to get it off. When its wet its not as visible but when it is dry there is a decent amount of it on his door. Also, there is no difference in feeling when you run your finger across it. He has a red chevy pick up. year is 2001 or so and it hasn't been in any accidents. Would this be as simple as using some light/heavy polished to get off or is it something that needs to be repainted? Any comments/recommendations on how to fix it for my friend would be great. Unless it has been resprayed i wanna say it wont be tinted clear...i dont think gmc does this on red trucks...could it be paint transfer from someones door? There doesnt have to be a dent or anything for that to happen...first and foremost you should try claying it off...if not i would try buffing it off.
If it is some paint/stain gotten from other car or wall, a polish/compound will do the job to remove the stain. Like what J BELL mention, try claying it off first. If it doesn work, step up to polish or compound.
Well I know for a fact both Honda and Mazda do this to save $$ on red pigment; the base red paint itself is a pinkish red tone (so they don't pay as much for red paint) then the clear coat has a red tint to it causing the car to appear red; as the clear fades over the course of time the paint becomes pink
it doesnt look like it has been rubbed up again another car. its in spots that would be pretty much impossible to rub the door against a car or a wall wouldn't i be able to feel a difference if the clear had faded? its just in random spots i dont think its been resprayed, i asked him and he said there wasn't any accidents on the truck. maybe the person before him didnt tell him but who knows. thanks for the advice. my first thought was to clay and see what was left. i will try to have him stop by and get a picture for u
I had a similar experience with our '89 BMW 525i in that it doesn't show up as much when the car was wet. In my experience, it was really oxidized paint and I was definitely aware of it. However, it might be something totally different for you. Like everyone has already mentioned, a picture would be your best friend to help you and us out.
Like everyone else has suggested, a picture would be best, try to rub an area with your finger with a good bit of pressure. If that area gets brighter than you know that the paint is oxidized.
That would be a burn mark from buffing, went through the clear and into the paint. The only way your going to get rid of that is to repaint that panel.
