I want to find a detail spray that doesn't contain silicone or polymers in it.

After thinking about dieselMDX's thread about QD altering the look of high end nuba's, I did some research on my detail spray of choice, Adam's...which I must say is the finest for eas of use IMO, but I have to admit when I heard on autopia that Adam's contains silicone, I admitted to myself that I have noticed that After a Adam's wipedown, the depth and glow turns more like sealant plastic look that before.

DieselMDX even sayed Field Glaze gave him this same problem after applying Vintage.

So, since I use swissvax I was thinking ofordering Quick Finish, but does this also have silicone in it?

Man, I'm learning new stuff everyday!

Optimum Instant Detailer does not contain silicones. Here is a quote from Doctor G. "Instant Detailer contains flouropolymers which repel water, dirt, and oil. Silicones on the other hand, repel water while attracting oil and dirt."

    Here's a question...

If a QD had neither polymers nor silicone in it...would it just be straight water with some coloring and fragrance in it? Or is there more to it than that?

Makes me wish I'd taken more chemistry classes. I find this stuff fascinating.

If you are following LSP application with a QD wipe down to remove wax residue, smears, etc., I suggest using distilled water. In my experience, every QD leaves remnants (i.e., when I use Meguiar's Last Touch as a clay lube, I have to complete an 50/50 IPA wipe down otherwise the masking tape will not adhere to the finish properly). In response to the question poised, any body shop safe QD, such as Meguiar's Final Inspection, will not contain silicone.

[A fluoropolymer is a fluorocarbon based polymer with multiple strong carbon–fluorine bonds. It is characterized by a high resistance to solvents, acids, and bases. Fluoropolymers share the properties of fluorocarbons in that they are not as susceptible to the van der Waals force as hydrocarbons. This contributes to their non-stick and friction reducing properties. Also, they are stable due to the stability multiple carbon–fluorine bonds add to a chemical compound. Fluoropolymers may be mechanically characterized thermoplastics] Wikipedia – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluoropolymer

A DMS silicone (see article “Petroleum Distillates”) is inherently ‘sticky’ so it will attract dirt etc, whereas a PMS silicone is not

To enable an atomizing spray to operate requires silicone and most QD sprays contain a polymer (see article "Quick Detailers")

ONR has polymers. You should have polymers, otherwise it's not a QD, it's water!
But you don't want any silicone in your QD.

is there a way to find out if Adam's Detail Spray has any silicone?

If it does, does that mean that it will be covering my swissvax, and altering the way water beads and rolls off? I think if I'm coating my whole car with silicone after I wax it then the paint is more likely to bead water then roll off naturally and i'll get water spots!

I've tried it. I suppose it "works," in so far as it's useful for light cleaning and dusting. However, I don't find that it brings much to the table regarding any extra shine, or extra slickness. OID is much better, in my opinion.

Cheap too. 1 32 oz. bottle ($19.95) makes a gallon of the stuff!

If your Adams products don't have a phone number listed on them, Phil at Detailer's Domain might.

Hmm, what about Meg's Last Touch? Oh yeah, what seems to be the best QD for claying for you guys?

I actually clayed one my client's vehicles with Meg's UQD and Riccardo. I'm wondering if using that particular QD had any adverse affect on my clay and claying process. :shead:

With some QD's the shine is obtained by the use of solvents, which could have a detremental effect on the clay
