so i am kinda new to wrenchin on PCs (specifically Building them).... i have always tinkered with my store bought HPs and Dells... hell i even replaced all the capacitors on my HP Motherboard last month.... so the HP that needed a ReCap was about 5 years old and i knew it was time to replace it but i didnt want standard store bought mostly due to the fact that I HATE VISTA..... well after shopping around i found that you really cant buy a decent Dell or HP and have XP installed at the factory so i figured why not build my own.... i managed to barter, trade, craigslist, ETc and get killer deals on pretty much every part in it and wound up spending next to nothing out of my pocket... Very nice machine!! If that doesn't last you for a while, you've got a serious addiction! I almost bought a quad-core when I was building mine, but then talked myself out of it and settled for the AMD 5600+X2... wish I hadn't done that now... OK my computer's very fast, so I guess it's just one of those "more power!!" things.
Very, very cool! Would you mind sharing where you bought all the parts? You said you spent "next to nothing," and that kind of grabbed my attention. How close to nothing are we talking about here? I'm actually thrilled with the current PC - a Dell XPS 630 I bought one year ago. But as with all things, more is always better...
Looks very cool :thumb: I don't know much about computers my self to be honest but it looks really neat :applause:
That's a really clean setup! What mm size fan is up top? 200? Oh and are you working off of a micro ATX or standard? Does it seem like the fan at the bottom (near the PSU) does much? It doesn't seem like there's much space below it to push the air up. Sorry for the many questions but I'm curious about your setup and how much you invested in it, hehe. I haven't build a desktop in over 6 years so I'm looking to build another one pretty soon... hopefully this year.
Very clean setup! I like the color scheme too! Good choice with the Crossfire 4870's, are those 512MB or 1 GB each? Any plans to overclock?
Yeah it will last me for a while... i hope the addiction doesnt take over...LOL...i will be in trouble.... honestly i havent really run it enough to stress the CPU that it would get any real temp numbers yet but i can say its Cool as a cucumber...but i will get back to you on this when i get soem time to run it....had family over all day today so i havent even fired it up.... Thanks......Start ordering..... Thanks.....there is a Multi reader in the 3.5 bay in the front panel...it does the handful of popular cards as well as floppy.... parts came from all over....Newegg, craigslist, microcenter, ebay....i did a ton of trading and or bartering with a coupe of guys on the R/C car forums that i play around on....traded alot of my on road stuff with a guy that had a large credit at newegg and was willing to take a hit....that is how i managed to spend next to nothing actually out of my pocket.... Thanks.....ask away...... as mentioned earlier i didnt spend much out of pocket since there was alot of trading and bartering going on....i think my total out of pocket cash was a couple hundred bucks.....in order to buy and build this setup i would have to say it would cost about $2000.00 the fan at the bottom is a little weak and came with the case(its actually the smallest fan of the 5 in there) i think its more for the red light than anything....the top, front and side fans are all 230mm and the rear is 140mm.....this case flows very well....i have all of the fans turned down as low as they can go and everything stays cool so far...we shall see what happens when i Overclock a bit and start running some games, movies, music, ETC.... 4870s are 512s....i wanted the 1gb cards but i traded some R/C parts with a guy for a 512 and i am a whacko when it comes to things matching so i found another matching card otherwise it would have been 1gb.....Overclock to come as soon as everything is running for a bit and completely stable...... i like overkill...LOL.... its more of a hobby for me....kinda like a carnuba collection.....do we really need those......overkill rules....... in case i missed anyone....thanks for all the positive replies......as of today now i have two more computers to build for family members that have seen this and want new PCs and would like something FUN.....of course not as over the top as this but hey they cant all be killers.....
[ i like overkill...LOL.... its more of a hobby for me....kinda like a carnuba collection.....do we really need those......overkill rules.......
yeh, in the same light im sure people think that much of what we do is overkill
yeh, in the same light im sure people think that much of what we do is overkill
they absolutely do....my neighbors and the neighbors of my customers usually think i am crazy....
