Hi all, I'm pretty new to the detailing scene so for the last couple months I've been expanding my detailing gear for this spring and summer. I can pretty much blame all of you for making me buy all this stuff, so it's only fair for you to all see it! Just got my polished bliss order in today, only took 7 days for them to ship it all the way to california! not bad at all. I found that the dollar is pretty strong right now so I tried to load up with pads while I was getting an HD foam lance anyways. Here's what I got! HD foam lance 3M Perfect-it III yellow backplate 2x 3M 125mm yellow pad 2x 3M 125mm blue pad 2x 3M 80mm green pad 2x 3M 80mm yellow pad 2x 3M 80mm blue pad meguiar's sanding block LC german CC oh I also received a gloss-it 3" backplate in the mail earlier in the week. Last week I took advantage of the deal I saw posted in the bargains forum for a 1400 psi karcher for $40 at OSH. I hope it's enough pressure for the foam lance... if not I'll have to return it and pick up another one. oh btw, to anyone still looking for one, they still have them in stock at the OSH near my house, and they're still $49!!! it comes with a wall mount with the foam lance Here's some of the other stuff I ordered from detailersdomain, chemical guys, ebay, and some local shops since the beginning of the year. Megs M105 Menz SIP Menz PO87MC (micro polish) Menz 85RD CG bare bones CG CWC DD wheel brush interior/exterior SV brushes 2x DD uber glass MF 2x DD uber WW drying towels Megs W66 backplate 2xLC 6.5" flat PFW, orange, white, green, black LC sponge 3M tape Makita rotary 9227 bissell LGM proheat Also a bunch of duragloss/collinite. The spray bottle in the back is actually duragloss bug remover. My friend dropped the bottle and punctured a hole in the bottom of it. one last thing, I was able to pick up a highline paint guage for $100 bux off of ebay! woot! thx for looking :applause2:
Thanks everyone! I was looking forward to a warm/sunny weekend but apparently it's going to rain on Sunday! Maybe I can get a quick wash in today... I'll post pictures if I do!
Now thats the way to start off right there. Most of us started out on other forums and ended up purchasing products that we never use anymore and were a little bit of a waste of money. Lucky for you this forum is here and you did some excellent research. I don't see much of anything in your collection that I wouldn't love to have myself. Oh now that you posted up your collection how about some pics of what you'll be using it on.icture:
nice hauls! now THAT's how you order detailing supplies/equipment! just curious...is it all for personal use or are you detailing as a source of income? oh and just a little suggestion....since spending a good amount of money on detailing stuff seems to not be a problem for you, do yourself a favor and stock up on microfiber towels.
Thanks! I got some grime reaper too, I hope to use it on wheel wells. CG rules! [*cough*except for their shipping*cough*] Thanks JLs! I know what you mean, DB is such a good resource. Though I like many of you found my way here through another forum (s2ki). Fortunately I received some sound advice there too, so I didn't end up buying too many things I don't use anymore (for example my foam gun). Oh about those pictures, I'll do my best to document all of my details this summer. For now, here's some pictures of my first wash with the foam cannon today. The car was actually pretty clean, I only needed to get all the pollen off of it, so I opted out of doing a full two bucket wash after the prewash (i guess you can't call it a pre wash then...). I rinsed and used my awesome new OSH watering pot for the waterfall method. Sprayway on the windows and went over the body with CG speedwipe. Sorry no before pictures, I couldn't get my camera to pick up the thin layer of pollen. I know a white s2k isn't exactly the best car to show the foam... but at least you can see the awesome coverage on the soft top. Enjoy! Thanks billybloo, right now it's just a hobby, but I hope to expand to small jobs with friends and family. Thanks for the tip, when DD first started carrying his uber red towels a picked up about 2 dozen, but as always, you can never have enough MF! Unfortunately it wasn't new. The ebay seller said he happened to have two and was getting rid of one. When I received it he was kind enough to include his contact information just in case I had any problems with it, so I was very happy with the purchase.
It's pretty easy to use, I've tried it on four different cars 2006 Subaru Forester, 1997 Mercury Tracer, 1993 Toyota Celica, and a 2003 Honda s2000. I've come away with fairly consistent readings on the three japanese cars (3-5 mils), but the Tracer is all over the place. It seems like the lower half of the car has thicker paint than the top half of the car. Like the top and the hood will be around 4-5 mils, but the bottom half of the door panel will be around 13 mils!!!! I have no idea what that means... or if the PTG needs recalibrating. I'll have to do some more research. Currently I'm hoping to use it more as a sanity check while I'm polishing to make sure I don't take too much clear off. Until I get a larger sample set of readings, I can't really tell what's the typical thickness for each car, though togwt's rotary guide seems to provide a good starting point. http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f8/using-high-speed-rotary-polisher-8264.html
