*warning...rant in progress* So I wake up around 10am today and I suddenly decide to go rearrange my detailing supplies in my garage. Given that I am in SoCal, it is fairly safe to store anything and everything in the garage without fear of it freezing or whatnot. First step into the garage, I notice a strong chemical smell in the air. Thinking that it was a small bottle of APC+ or even smaller bottle of Optimum Power Clean that burst open, I was prepared for the worst....or so I thought. :shakehead: First glance at my cabinet, I notice that the bottom area is soaked with what I thought water. Further inspection with my Brinkmann showed that it was either APC+ or Power Clean. Adding further to the problem, this was the shelf that stored all of my gallon chemicals doh. It turns out that the Power Clean developed a hidden crack at the very bottom of its container somehow and LEAKED ALL THE WAY OUT. Over 125oz of Power Clean GONE, in ONE night! :doh::doh::doh: :thud: Now, I tried to figure out what had happen. It seemed completely fine when I first opened it and made a 1:3 mix in a 10oz bottle :shead:. Furthermore, it seemed completely fine for days after putting it on that shelf :shead:. So I filled the container up with water and kept an eye over it while cleaning up the garage. Freaking thing didn't start leaking until 5 min into cleaning. I swear, it was the smallest leaking of a bottle in the world :shakehead: 2 hours later, I finish cleaning what I could of the garage. Still full of the chemical smell with barely anyway of drying since its for once a cold day here in SoCal. Guess I got to let it slowly evaporate now :doh: Now I'm sad since the bottle was barely a month old. I bought it from Phil during the last sale he had (2/9/09). I'm not saying anything bad about Phil, he is an amazing sponsor. He'll always have my business no matter what happens. This is just a warning to you guys to keep an eye on your bottles. You never know what will happen :sorry: Now I have to go order another gallon of Optimum Power Clean :waiting: :shakehead: /end rant
I almost had you topped this morning. Bringing my kids to daycare this morning and some crazy bi**ch going the opposite direction decides to do a U-turn in the middle of the road for some reason. I slam the brakes and just missed t-boning her by 2 feet, thank god for brembos!
Im sorry about this, maybe keep an eye out on other boards to see if they had this problem at all. I honestly dont know what could have happened...sounds like a puncture hole but i think you could guess where it MIGHT have come from, which obviously you dont. :sorry:
Sounds like there was something going around today. Started off with my misadventures with Werkstat Carnauba Jett, which I've described in the "Brand Names" section, in the "Werkstat Stuff" thread. I'm really growing to hate this stuff. Then, I made a half-assed effort to clean up my daily, a CRX Si with paint that had already started to turn pink when I bought the car. I was planning for simple - Dawn wash, S100 TCW in the jambs, hit it with some CG's Blitz spray sealant, should have taken about an hour and a half. The trouble began when I attempted to clear what I can only assume is years-old wax out of the pinstripes that go down the side of the car (which I hate). I ended up using my trusty 50/50 alcohol/water spray bottle. Something I've never seen before happened - the paint got sort of stained where I sprayed it. I can fix it with a quick going over with the Makita, but I was kind of hoping to avoid that. Especially since the car has already started to turn pink, I kind of hate to put the polisher on it... Ugh. Bad day.
Sucks to hear Isaac; how is that power clean stuff? I may join in with you? ? Hmnn as far as the CRX to krshultz..it has a tinted clear that's why it hazed. Honda tints their red clear coats so they can skimp on the red pigment of the paint.
I remember this from a red Integra GS-R I had years ago, but I wouldn't have guessed a car this old (1989) would have a clear coat of any sort on it. So it does? Er...did? Pretty much anything I run across the car comes up red. It really needs a coat of paint - it was a goner when I bought the car. --Karl
Just be happy its somewhat on the cheap side. I had the same problem but with P21s gel. :thud: I wanted to pull my hair out. Luckily though it was in my cabinet so i got a MF towel and soaked up what i could and squeezed it out into another bottle. Ended up losing about 1L out of the 5L that had leaked.
bleh, I'm gonna see if Optimum can help me out since I believe the container was faulty. Hopefully something good comes out of this. I'm damn grateful that it wasn't my P21S gel but still, $40 is quite a blow for my student income :sorry:
While I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune and it stinks that it happened, if that is your "worst morning ever", you live a very easy life. I know you are young, but still. Be prepared for life to get much worse. Some of the days that I have had, if that is all that happened to me, I would consider it a good day! I'm not trying to pick on you, so don't take it that way. It's just that a lot of people in life (especially right now) have a hard go at it every day. Day in and day out. Be thankful for all of the good stuff in your life and don't focus too much on a random bad thing that happened to you.
Yup, I know. I wasn't thinking really right when I started ranting. I was just sort of mad that it had to happen to me since just 2 weeks ago something worse happened too. Sucks but gotta move on :shrug: UPDATE: David Ghodoussi, the CEO of Optimum, emailed me back. He said it was probably something that happened during shipping (dropped, etc). Even though its not their fault, he said he would still send me a replacement gallon of Power Clean on my next order. That was very admirable and now I love the Optimum line even more! I can't wait to see what else I would like to try from them :applause2:
