Zaino/Duragloss/Menzerna questions

Ok, I have detailed my white 550i with Zaino...ZPC put on with a PC and white pad with 2 coats of Z2pro (by hand). (I clayed prior to the ZPC).

Car looks good, but I want it to look better. A few swirls left etc.

I have read the DG 501 REALLY cleans up white nicely. I have also read that Menzerna products are great and was thinking of starting with SIP and orange pad to really polish the surface.

So, my question, these are a lot of products and I am not sure where DG 501 fits in...it is mainly a cleaner, so use it after the clay? Then polish the car? Is Zaino ZPC similar to Menzerna Nano or FP?

My thought was to use ZPC after the SIP. OR since I own the ZPC already, do I try to apply it with a light cutting pad, e.g. Orange? then followup with White? (and skip using the SIP)

So many decisions, so many products.

I have a lot of interest in the Duragloss products as well the more I read. I may have to try them once my Zaino is gone. What is the optimum DG combo?

    thx!

Sip and nano is a great combo but if you have light swirls why start with such a aggresive pad ,Also if your using a PC and not a rotary menz needs more heat then a pc can produce. I would start with a white pad and see if that corrects the swirls

501 gets applied/worked in after you polish the car. It's basically a paintwork cleanser. You apply 105 after, this combination works great on silver and white. I'm not sure of it's effect on the paint if it were jeweled, but I know it has very light cut if at all.

I have only used DG 601 (bonding agent) and 105 combo for wheels. Makes keeping them clean easier.

This might not be useful to your needs, but figured I'd throw it in there in case you are interested.

I didnt know the Menz needed a rotary...so that is out.

I used the ZPC with a white pad already....do it again?

Do i use the DG501 after the ZPC prior to Z2 and with what pad??

If your useing a cleaner i don't think it will get rid of the swirls i see no reason not to try another run at it with a orange pad which may be alot of work. Then step down to a gray pad for the sealant.I've never used that product so hard to say if it will correct you problem .I did use the menz products on a pc it just didn't cut it on my ceramic clear coat.

harley guy.. you can use menzerna with a PC..what do all the PC guys do use a PC polish..where is one? you can use menzerna no problem..any polish will take longer with a PC..it moves slower..but it can be done. in general i think the PC is a waste of money..maybe for lsp's but for polishing i wish people didn't get so scared of the rotary.. i couldn't imagine working with something else..you cannot get it to look as jeweled with a PC.. that is the problem.. but you can use menzerna polishes without a problem either. no polish PC combo will get as good of results as a rotary for it can't create the heat..but it still does the job

it just takes a lil longer.. get 85 rd and a black pad and sip and a white pad and an orange pad.. start with the least abrasive and work your way to ward the most abrasive till the imperfections are out then finish with 85 rd and a black pad..

Why 85RD vs. nano or Zaino's PC? Do you use SIP on most cars or do you start with something like 85RD and see if it needs more?

    thx

The Duragloss is like the old version of Zaino. I would stick with Zaino. You may want to play with different polishes to see what works best for you or what you are most comfortable doing your prep with but continue to finish with Zaino.

I prefer 3m, Menzerna and ZPC for my prep work.

    I hope this helps.

Ok, prior to buying any other polishes, I did find DG 501 at my local Carquest.

I feel I can either apply ZPC with an orange pad OR I could spend more time on each section with the white pad. I doubt I spent enough time actually polishes the sections in hindsight. I want to give it 100% chance before anything else.

Question, do you use DG501 AFTER you have polished? Thus cleaning the surface in prep for the LSP?

    thx

Yes, either by hand, rotary or pc. I use a black lcc pad to do it.

I have finalized what I am going to next with my 550i and thanks everyone for your assistance.

I have purchased some DG501 and Menzerna SIP plus an orange cut pad and black finish pad.

I plan on using the SIP and orange pad first. Then Zaino PC on white pad, then DG 501 on black pad, then Z2Pro by hand.

I hear recommendations to wipe down the car with a 50/50 IPA/water mix? At what point? After the ZPC? or after the SIP to check lack of swirls?

    thx

all i can say is Menzerna FMJ is amazing, its very easy to apply and very easy to remove and leaves very nice wet look, used it yesterday again, probably best stuff i ever used as LSP, give it a try

If you're doing the 50/50 to check the correction, do it after the SIP. If you finish it down well, which it sure does, IMO if you use a white or green pad, you don't need to do it. Just go to the black pad and the 501. With the orange pad, you will definitely correct, but MAY need to do another step with a less aggressive pad. It WILL be worth the effort and will look amazing. Don't forget the most important thing, though....
