I think vans are the best options and they are dirt cheap on criaslist

 

A couple of things to keep in mind. Most leasing companies will lease vehicles up to 4 years old. Find a truck a few years old with warranty remaining. This will allow you the benefit of purchasing the extended warranty whilst allowing the original owner to take the hit on the depreciation. Having said that, incentives on new vehicles are such right now you could probably lease a new truck for the same monthly payment as a three year old truck because of the better interest rate on the new one. If you are hooking up to water and power where you are working, I would look at an Astrovan or HHR. Make sure you know what equipment you will need, I can help you with this, as once you've got your truck, you've got it for the term of the lease. As for the noise, my Honda EU2000 cycloinverter is rated at 56db under full load. Your vacuum is probably louder. My new Kohler pressure washer is barely louder than that and I can get an optional Super Quiet muffler for it. Just depends on how much you want to spend.:thumb: My Savana is 5 years old, is very comfortable to drive and hasn't cost me a dime to operate. I'm still running the same brake pads that came with the truck and I've put over 50,000 kms on it. If you buy a new GM, ask about their racking packages they have available.

in my quest i have found that GM and Ford are NO LONGER LEASING vans......i dunno if its only my areas(northeast) or the whole country.....thats why i am at a stand still because i wanted the write off....i even went to a few individual leasing companies around here and was told the same thing....it seems that the concern is the van will be trashed in a few years when they get it back....guess they had some bad experiences with vans.....LOL.....

 

I have this theory. Buy it once, buy it for life. My Honda pwasher cost me $1500 almost 10 years ago and it that time it never missed one day of work. Well worth the extra dollars. I lease all my new equipment as well. Allows me to have very reliable equipment and keep the initial outlay down. The new 12hp Kohler and Honda EU2000 is only costing me $150 / month but I will never have to replace them.

Look in the yellow pages in your area for leasing companies. You may not be able to get the dirt cheap factory financing, but you should be able to find a company to lease one for you.

Ah, I didn't realize you leased your equipment as well. So do you lease this equipment on similar terms to that of a vehicle... every 3 to 4 years or so you turn it in only to lease another set of equipment? :shead:

 

Too bad you're not up here. One of my carpet installers is selling his ford cargo van. 1300 bucks.

 

Although they are kind of odd looking the Honda Element is all plastic and rubber on the inside. You can literally clean it out with a hose. Plus the back seats come out with a couple of clips.


If you want something bigger check out a Sprinter. You can find a used one for a similar price to a van.

 

I typically do a three year lease. The buyout is typically 10% of the face value of the lease. You can give the equipment back and lease new stuff, but like I said, buy it once, buy it for life. Get the best equipment you can AFFORD and you probably won't have to replace it for years. The lease is similar to a car, about $35 / $1000 of equipment so $4000 of equipment would be $140 month plus taxes. If you call any equipment supplier, they should be able to direct you to a company that will handle it for you.

There will be some interesting vehicles that should tailor better to mobile detailers such as the Ford Transit Connect. I know there are a few others as well.
