is anyone else having problems with firefox starting up ? i start it and it just seems to go into and endless loop of loading the page or if i'm viewing a page and click ahead a page it doesn't load so i have to hit stop and then it will load, uninstalled 3 times in the last two days, having lots of problems with firefox these days.

Have you considered installing NoScript? It is an Add-on that prevents sites from running scripts without your knowledge. Program lets you allow scripts either temporarily or permanently (like for DB). Really helps with general browsing speeds.

    1) Empty your cache.

    2) Disable your extensions. Does the browser work better? Then enable one extension at at time. Check performance after each enablement? Do you notice a degradation of performance? If yes, that specific extension is the culprit.

The only problem I've had with Firefox has been with the spell checker. Not a single contraction - don't, can't, won't, wouldn't, it's - was in its database. If the word had an apostrophe in it, it was flagged as wrong.

Other than that little bit of weirdness, it's been really good. Doesn't seem to be plagued with memory leaks nearly as bad as Firefox 2.x was.

I've upgraded from Firefox to Mozilla Minefield now to Mozilla Shiretoko 3.1b3pre with no problems. It's still in beta but seems a lot faster than Firefox. The downside is that there are not any extensions out yet.

Here is another troubleshooting page. I presume you are using Windows. The Mac troubleshooting page can be found here.

I'm having a similar problem and I think it has to be linked with one of the extensions I am running.

Maybe we can find the similarity between our configs and figure out the culprit.

    I have on mine:

    Tab Mix Plus
    Ad Block Plus
    Foxmarks
    IE Tab
    Sage
    (I think that's it)

What about anti-spyware or A/V programs? Do you have a programs that scans the sites you visit? I have a client that installed McAfee and the site scanning brought browsing to a crawl.

Not me. I run AVG and didn't install the web shield portion of it.

I actually am having this same problem on a system of mine i just formatted and haven't put antivirus on at all yet.

unintall and then reinstall, should get rid of most the problems....

i had a problem with firefox where, everytime i started it; my bookmarks, Favorites, all of my customizations were gone, as if i had installed ff for the first time.

3.0 was a godsend to me, no problems at all

The problem I keep having is that it shuts down when I'm downloading a file or it won't let me save the file and it gives me an error message that the contents of that folder cannot be changed. It is quite annoying as it happens frequently, so now I only use IE to download. Never had those issues with the previous version.

Sounds like something may be corrupted. I'd go for a fresh install. Save your bookmarks and delete all the Firefox files and then reinstall the latest version of FF. You might consider posting your problem over at the FireFox forum.
